What does the passage of the Health Bill mean to you, personally?

Historic bill is said to extend health care to 30 mil. Do you now have health care? Do you know someone who doesn’t? Do you know someone who has needed health care, but could not receive it due to lack of insurance? Do you think the health care bill will bankrupt the nation? Do you think health care is as accessible to you in the US as in other countries? What is your opinion of how the Health Reform Bill will affect you or your family?
I do know people who have been denied health care because of lack of insurance. I do know people who do not have health insurance by choice and people who do not have health insurance by circumstances. I do know people who have lost insurance coverage because of job loss. I do know people who have been unable to get new coverage because of preexisting conditions. I do know people who have been put in extreme financial difficulty by staggering medical bills.
I have lived in other countries, and do not believe health insurance is as accessible in the US as it is elsewhere. In some cases, the cost of care itself makes it inaccessible, even with insurance.
"Bankrupting the nation" is indeed a big concern. A new health bill will certainly increase the burden on the treasury, which will have to be made up in some other way. On the other hand, if the current forecast is accurate, the yearly cost would be just a fraction of what the US spends in the various wars it is fighting. There did not seem to be a big problem in coming up with unbudgeted items like $300 billion/yr for these wars, so, $50 billion/yr for health care should be hard to swallow but manageable. We forget that we spend already over $1 trillion/yr in health care.
We will have to see what the final bill looks like. For now, most of the provisions would be an improvement for me and my family.
im not sure what it means yet, fact is im paying way too much for health insurance, 37% of my yearly income is being spent on it, ALMOST 40%. I cant pay for this much longer.
IF the insurance companies play by the rules, it should bring my costs down, but without the public option or ‘trigger’ that would scare the insurance companies into being honest, im still skeptical if it will work. I’m hoping it will because this affects all of us in some way or another.
I guess only time will tell.
It eventually will likely result in the rationing of health care thus lower my current level of available health care.
It will definitely increase my taxes.
