There is a huge difference. A high school teacher is required to have a minimum of a Bacherlor’s degree and a teaching license (about 4 years of school). Their daily job is to teach students, and they are supervised by a principal and told how and what to teach by the school district.
A college professor has a minimum of a PhD in their specific field of study (that’s a BA, MA, and then PhD – roughly 10-13 years of school, sometimes more). Professors are required to teach (but not all day), and also to publish articles and books on their field of study. They are not usually told how or what to teach, and supervision is minimal. They do have a committee which reviews their work every few years and decides whether or not they will be allowed to continue at the university. This is decided mainly on the basis of what they have published (teaching counts, but not that much). It is generally very difficult to get a job as a professor, and even more difficult to keep one.
at the very least a Master’s degree
Because high school teachers have a Bachelors degree. and to be a prfessor you must have a masters or doctrate.
All I can think of is specialized education, in a particular major of teaching.
In most states, teachers are required to obtain their master’s degree within a certain time period. For professors to earn tenure they almost always have to have a doctorate.
There is a big difference between college professor and grade school teacher. Grade school teachers specialize in education, and are not professionals in their field. Even with a masters degree, their primary concern is that of education. That is major reason why mathematics in grade school and college are so far apart. Professors are solely professionals in their field. They work in jobs in their career, and teach their knowledge to a class. They do not concern themselves over whether students are being educated a certain way for the most part. High school teachers are generally unprepared for teaching a specific area and are usually seen teaching areas outside of their major.
College professors often have PhD’s, although colleges sometimes hire adjuncts (part-time or full-time instructors) that only have Master’s Degrees. You can be a high school teacher with just a Bachelor’s degree in teaching and in your subject area. More and more high school teachers are receiving Master’s now, though.
College professors won’t baby-sit you and care less if you do your assigned work.
Other than that, most college classes are just like high school. Rote memorization and lots of questions taken out of your textbooks. You will be lucky if your college professors actually help you learn to think critically.
