How long does a story have to be?

I am writing a story, and i saw a book with chapters like, 2, or 3 pages long. But there are like 30 chapters. And i want it to be like that, but have only 10, maybe 15 chapters If i wrote one like that, would it be consitered a short story.

As long as it takes to get it told convincingly without losing the reader.
Brevity will add no value if the tale is left hanging in the middle of nowhere.

There’s no definite length for what a story can be.

It could be 1000 words – "flash" fiction.

It could be a short story, which could be one page or 50.

It could be 100 pages and be a novella.

It could be 500 pages and be a novel – which is still a story.

Don’t worry about classifying. Just write.

It’s not so much how many chapters, because some writers like a few long chapters and others like many short chapters. It’s a matter of preference.

I have been advised that commercially published first-time novels should be around 80,000 to 90,000 words.

most books i’ve read have 20 page chapters, and the books are usually near 300 pages :)
…but you could write 10 page chapters, and write like 30 chapters!
    hope i helped!
